We will keep fighting for all libraries - stand with us!
The text of Jan Amos Comenius, Opera Didactica Omnia, is published here just as a corpus terminorum for students of the living modern Latin of the seventeenth century. Its source is the OCR version of the original, scanned, partially edited and published by Reinhard Gruhl, to accompany the images of the original, page by page, inside the Camena Project of Early Modern Latin texts. The texts of Comenius are difficult to edit due to his practice of writing substantives referring to philosophical concepts in capital letters. The problem is aggravated by the fact that Comenius, writes with capital letters all the substantives and adjectives that refer to God, the Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Church. To circumvent these and many other difficulties, we decided to use only minuscule letters throughout, inclusive for proper names. Only the first letter of each sentence is written with capital letters. All diacritics have been suppressed, the orthography was partially modernised and the letter j was maintained representing consonantical i, a practice of the Ramist orthography. Considering the long extension of the Camena text, these were sensible and necessary measures to make available a precious text exclusively for the sake of learning Latin. The mechanical procedure that we adopted to publish this text was made possible by the editing resources of the Microsoft Office 365. and. CAMENA Latin Texts of Early Modern Europe.
